Itinerary

Day 01

Arrival and transfer to Colombo, stop for lunch at Thunapaha Restaurant,

Thuna Paha Restaurant – Surrounded by picturesque waterways on an island of its own lies Colombo’s latest authentic Sri Lankan restaurant  “Thuna Paha” by Waters Edge. Cinnamon, Cardamon, Cumin and Caraway are the secret ingredients to make the super spicy Sri Lankan dishes. Try your first Sri Lankan meal here to get your taste  buds ready.

Upon completion, visit Apegama to get to know the life of a Sri Lankan Village,

Ape Gama – A place in Colombo where you can get idea of the village life. It is open from 9.00 AM to 9.00 PM every day and yes there are people living and working in this artificial village. Karunarathne Mahagamarala is a head of the village. Like in olden days, you will find the round shaped housed with a garden in the center of the house which we call “Meda Midula”. There are women frying, making sweets and if you are interested you can get a cooking demonstration as well. If you are in Sri Lanka on very short visit and do not have enough to discover the actual village life, this is the place to visit.

Proceed to your hotel in Colombo. Rest a bit and in the evening visit the Gangaramaya Temple,

Gangayamaya Temple – Gangaramaya is one of the oldest and most beautiful Buddhist temples you will find in the heart of Colombo, this was started in the 19th Century by the scholar monk Hikkaduwe Sri Sumangala Nayaka Thera. He laid the foundation to convert this temple to an institute of international reckoning.  The next chief incumbent was the Ven. Devundara Keerthi Sri Sumangala Jinaratana Vacissara Thera, the teacher of the Ven. Galboda Gnanissara, who worked for what Gangaramaya is today: This is a main tourist attraction in Colombo.

Upon completion proceed on a Colombo street food walk,

Street Food Walk in Colombo – This could be your favorite part of the stay in Colombo, starting from Galle Face Green, there are many hot spots in Colombo famous for delicious street food, as you walk along the Galle Face green you can try the ‘Isso Wadey”, a short eat made of Dhal, flour and prawns served hot with a sambol will surely warm up your taste buds for the street food walk, you might find these a little spicy as Sri Lankan is a spice country the people are so used to spicy food. Hulfsdrop is another location in Colombo for a variety of street food such as Samosas, Patties, Rolls, Coconut rotties and also the western snacks like burgers, submarines, various types of soups as well. You must try a traditional Sri Lankan Kottu, as Colombo serves the best of Kottu in Sri Lanka. Definitely you will not be disappointed once you have done the Street food walk.

 

Return to your hotel in Colombo for the overnight stay.

Day 02

After breakfast at hotel, visit the Pettah market,

Pettah Market – You can call this the most hectic yet market place in Sri Lanka, from fruits, clothing, toys lottery tickets,you name it, as pet the Sri Lankan says ‘Its available in Pettah’. The prices are cheap hence the locals travel all the way to Pettah from various parts of the country to purchase the goods. The Loudness and walking through crowds will make you soon understand the busy life of locals. The main bus station is also situated in Colombo so it is easy to get here from anywhere as the last stop would be Pettah.

Lunch at Agra Restaurant, you can a taste a range of North Indian food,

Agra restaurant – for excellent north Indian meals this is one of the best restaurants in Colombo. With typical historic Indian design in the background, quite a massive place which can accommodate about one hundred guests. Paratas, Chapthi along with many famous and tasty North Indian cuisines for you to choose from are served here..

After lunch visit an art gallery in Greepath where you will be able to purchase remarkable painting for a very reasonable amount.

Nelum Pokuna Art Street – A picturesque road side in Colombo? Surely it is the Nelum pokuna open art gallery. Located behind the Colombo National museum, this is a place visited by both local and foreign art lovers. All paintings are by the local artists many of them are university students who are trying to sell their artworks to cover their day to day expenses, and the difference here is you can purchase a good quality, beautiful painting for a very reasonable price. Even if you do not purchase any paintings, a snap of shop of this street is really worth it for your Sri Lanka tour album.

Upon completion visit the Independence square,

Independence Memorial Hall – Built for the commemoration for Independence of Sri Lanka, this is situated in Cinnamon Gardens, in the heart of the city which you can visit during your city tour. Morning and evenings, you can see the locals come here for jog and bit of exercising. The statue of the first Prime minister of Sri Lanka can be seen facing front. There are interesting carved pillars which hold the room of the hall.

Optionally you can visit the Sri Lanka Cricket Museum if you are interested.

Sri Lanka Cricket Museum – Sri Lanka as a country is famous for Cricket as we became the world champions in 1996 as well as T-20 world champions in 2014. If you are a Cricket fan, there is a Cricket museum in Colombo dedicated for the Cricket lovers. You can see all the major achievements of the Sri Lanka team as you enter the museum. The museum will be open for visitors daily from 0900hrs to 1700hrs.

Do a bit of shopping in Colombo, and have dinner at the Ministry of Crab,

Ministry of Crab – The restaurant has won the best south Asian restaurant title many times. Purely serving crab dishes making it the best place in Sri Lanka to taste a lovely dish of crab. Varies from 500 grams to 2 kilo grams you and your friends or family can try the best dish with these crab experts. Not only crabs if you have any other sea food dish in mind, they have it! Be sure to make a prior reservation before going here so you do not have to be disappointed as there are many food lovers from around the world visit this place for their favorite sea food or crab dish.

Return to your hotel for the overnight stay.
