Negombo is famous for its long sandy beaches and centuries-old fishing industry. The shallow waters of the Negombo lagoon provide safe sheltering for seafaring vessels. The Negombo fishing village also was known as Lellama by the locals is located across the lagoon bridge, near the old Dutch gate.

Negombo Dutch port originally built by Portuguese and later redesigned by Dutch in 16 centuries. If you are interested in historical architectural ruins over 300 years old, this is one of the best places. This port was a strategic location in line with Galle, Colombo, and Jaffna ports.

Adam’s peak known as Sri Padian Sinhalese, the sacred footprint is a rock formation near the summit, which in the Buddhist tradition is held to be the footprint of the Buddha. In Hindu tradition that of Hanuman or Lord Shiva and in some Islamic and Christian tradition that of Adam, or that of St. Thomas.
