Kalpitiya is a fishing town consisting of 14 islands. During ancient times it was famous for maritime trade and associated with smuggling escapades. A well-preserved fortress from the Dutch era is now occupied by the Sri Lanka Navy. Kalpitiya is a marine sanctuary and a tourist attraction for dolphins and whale watching. You can witness an amazing sunrise with dolphin watching experience and Bar Reef snorkeling.  Leaping pods of all from Spinner dolphins to Bottlenose dolphins can be witnessed. They will swim along with your boat; it will be like swimming with the dolphins.
